Mr. Downs' background includes over 30 years of technical and managerial experience in the environmental health and safety field. He is founder and currently President, EHS Management Partners, Inc. where the focus of services is enhancing the creation, measurement and communication of EHS value in client organizations. He provides training and development services to corporate, business unit and site EHS staff in management tools and techniques, provides EHS program development services, including EHS Manual development, EHS audits, special emphasis programs, worker and supervisor training. He has developed procedures and tools for ISO 14001 assessment and implementation and conducts ISO 14001/OHSAS 18001 system (Gap) Analyses. In addition, he has developed a Safety and Environmental Management System Assessment (SEMSA) tool (assessed over 50 sites), developed OSHA and EPA audit databases and has developed over 50 EHS training modules.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Safety (1972) and Master’s Degree in Industrial Hygiene (1977) from Texas A&M University. Certifications include: Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Safety Professional, Qualified Environmental Professional, and Certified Professional Environmental Auditor.
Mr. Downs’ past work history includes positions in consulting (Pace/ Rust E&I – 1989-1996; Industrial Health Engineering Associates 1979-1986) and industry (Corporate IH Manager, Control Data Corp., 1985-1989; Industrial Hygienist, 3M Company, 1977-1979). He founded EHS Management Partners in 1996. He has been active in leadership positions for the local chapters of AIHA, ASSE, Audit Roundtable and is currently a trustee of the American Industrial Hygiene Foundation.
